From humble beginnings in 1916 – Babich are a family owned business who have worked tirelessly and passionately over the years, learning all there is to know about making the best quality wine New Zealand has to offer - and taking it to the world. This wine has come from the very best and carefully selected wine growing land in New Zealand.
We're delighted to have David join us for one of our very popular degustation evenings right here in Manly Village. Five great wines matched with five lovely plates and lots of lively chat and a chance to hear from Babich themselves. Here are our tastings for the night:
Classic Marlborough Pinot Noir Rose 2016
This brand new release will start you thinking about how great summer is again! Red summer fruits, floral elements and a touch of spice. Mouth-filling and creamy with tangy strawberry, a touch of raspberry and a pleasantly crisp finish.
Classic Marlborough Pinot Gris 2015
Cuisine Magazine Recommended, the sweet, lifted aroma of proving bread appeals on the nose along with pleasant notes of white stone fruit, with spice and citrus adding to this sensory delight. Sweet Danish pastry and spicy pear tart emerge out of the succulent and sweetly fruited palate. Generous mineral flavours compliment the rich and full weight. Ginger and lemon zest add a pleasing zing to the finish.

That's some serious acclaim! You'll probably love this Chardy, and what a great way to exit Winter and enter Spring, a big feel good Chard! Warm and complex aromas of peach, cashew and lemon. Immediate weight on entry to the palate with concentrated fruits including peach and lime, but savoury elements too. Firmly structured, viscous and smooth.
Winemakers Reserve Organic Marlborough Pinot Noir 2014
- 5 STARS, BEST BUY- Cuisine Magazine April 2016
The perfect year round red, Pinot Noir, a beauty. Traditional winemaking techniques including fermentation in open vats with hand plunging, results in a smooth, full-flavoured wine. A sweet, dark and beguiling nose with cedar and strawberry. Palate entry is rich with cocoa and gentle spice. Morello cherries and velvety tannins fill the mid palate and a thread of tarragon runs through to join vanilla and more sweet darkness on the finish.
Winemakers Reserve Hawkes Bay St Johns Vineyard Syrah 2014
- 95+ POINTS. Number # 1 Syrah: Decanter Magazine Nov
Aromas of dark and sweet with liquorice, vanilla and cracked pepper. Sweet and rich entry, soft yet well structured. Lingering plum and spice. Mmmmmm, sounds scrumptious!
