Six Wines, Five Courses
Starting with The Ned Rose as an aperitif when you arrive, we'll explore almost the entire King's Series over the night.
The Ned Rose
As an aperetif we will serve you a glass of this gorgeous Rose before the menu begins. The aroma of The Ned Pinot Rose offers up a classic bouquet of red berries and cream, enriched by a broader elements of tree-ripened persimmon with high toned, rose-tinged notes. The palate is neatly rounded, with a fleshy mouthful with that same creamy, summer berry fruits running through its core; all neatly balanced with bright, crisp acidity
Favour Sauvignon Blanc
Lime zest and citrus blossom fragrance sit atop richer, more exotic elements of musky, pink grapefruit and black current hedge. Then on the palate edgy leafy greens are given intensity and cut from vivid lime – tinged acids, whilst the riper citrus elements & the signature wet stone minerality reveal themselves on the long, finely textured finish.
Thorn Pinot Gris
Poached pear and crab apple aromas underpinned by an array of subtle complexities that attest to efforts made in both the vineyard and winery to build flavour - quince, walnut and a whiff of barrel derived spiciness. Plush and mouth-filling with flavours of ginger spiced yellow apples, enriched by the retention of a couple of grams of natural grape sugar. The fruity richness eventually gives way to a vivid acid freshness typical of the Waihopai whilst the ultra-fine fruit tannin ultimately dries and refreshes the palate.
A subtle bouquet delivering layers of complex flavour that represent the key elements of Chardonnay craftsmanship; ripe vibrant fruit, oak derived nuances of spice and smoke plus a deftly judged winemaker influence. An elegant, finely structured palate that wraps creamy nougat, ripe citrus and white fleshed stonefruit flavours around a long, linear core of juicy acidity.
Wrath Pinot Noir
An unashamedly savoury bouquet where pure fruit aromas of red cherry and wild berries sit amongst bolder elements of smoke, spice and classic forest floor. The initial impression on the palate is very much in keeping with the aroma themes of the nose where rich savoury elements of tobacco leaf and lightly toasted cedar enhance the crunchy red berry fruit flavours. A balanced volume of fine, ripe tannin provides structure; creating the breadth and backbone necessary to carry these powerful flavours towards a long finish.
The Ned Noble Sauvignon Blanc
Botrytised grapes have been specially selected from amongst the vines of the Waihopai River vineyard to make this wine. The fermentation process takes a lengthy 6 months and extracts huge flavours from the shrivelled berries. Intensely sweet, yet balanced with a mixture of crisp citrus and fresh melon flavours, and as such, never cloys. Lingers long on the palate.
