Free tastings this week - Hawke's Bay, Italy & two from Marlborough

Mission Estate Merlot Cab/Sav

The colour is a deep garnet. The nose shows sweet spices, reminiscent of cocoa, cinnamon, clove and nutmeg. Overlaid are rich aromas of crushed raspberries, blackberries and boysenberries. A savoury complexity comes from aromas of leather and tobacco. The palate is bright, fresh, juicy and vibrant with a fine grained tannin giving drive long into the finish. Elsewhere, $16.50, Manly Liquor $13.99

Mount Riley Sauvignon Blanc

Fresh off its win of a Gold at both the Melbourne International Wine Competition and teh NZ International Wine Show, it's also garnered 5 Stars from Wine Orbit who write "Delightfully fragrant and intensely aromatic, this fabulous sauvignon shows white nectarine, passionfruit, lime zest and lemongrass notes on the nose. The palate is juicy and flavoursome, and delivers excellent fruit purity backed by bright acidity. Wonderfully expressed and highly enjoyable. At its best: now to 2019. 93 points for 5 Stars". Just $15.99.

Masseria Altemura Sasseo Primitivo

A Gold Medal at Concours Mondial Bruxelles underlines the quality of this beautiful smooth Italian Red. Made from a strict selection of grapes - exclusively of the Primitivo variety, from unique vineyards that maintain the quality of its indigenous cultivar whilst opening itself up to international taste. The name Sasseo (meaning "stony") was chosen to recall the uniqueness, sunniness and strength of the terroir that has produced this wine. Good body with a soft and warm mouth-filling flavour, supported by sweet tannins. An ideal wine to accompany roasted red meat dishes or roast lamb.

Giesen The Brothers Chardonnay

This is a helluva wine for just $21.99 (its RRP is $32) - full and sumptuous! It garnered a 5 Star Best Buy from Cuisine Magazine. Look at what the magazine said - "It was love at first taste for the entire panel with this wine. “Understated, but so elegant and sophisticated,” said Jane Boyle. Apricot, citrus, mealy and hazelnut flavours are tethered to a persistent flinty seam. It is a joyous mouthful, finishing lengthy and dry.
Another great seafood wine; serve with fish poached in chilli-infused coconut cream." Come on in and give it a try, it's a blow away quality wine at a very keen price!
