We're opening up five amazing beers from the Waitakere's Black Sands Brewing this Friday night from 4pm-7pm. Come and meet Ian from the brewery and taste this magical lineup.
Black Sands Pilsener
The single malt and single hop (SMASH) pilsener showcases NZ's famous Motueka hop. The profusion of heady citrus and fruit aromas is perfectly balanced by the rich golden malt, giving a clean, bitter finish and a delightful lingering taste. Enjoy on any occasion with all savoury foods, from delicate fish and chicken to bold meat dishes, pizzas and barbeques. It's got a 5.5% ABV.
Black Sands NZ Pale Ale
Black Sands Pale Ale is a refreshingly balanced, full-bodied New Zealand style ale with 5% ABV. Its pale ale and Munich base malts provide a delicate orange hue, a crisp white head and a rich, full bodied platform for the Pacifica and Motueka hops. These hops combine the citrus flavours of lemon lime and orange marmalade with a background of tropical fruit notes and a subtle floral fragrance. This is a beer to savour at any time of the day with salads, seafood and poultry as well as the stronger flavours of spicy Asian foods and red meat dishes.
Black Sands Pacific Red Ale
A fresh and hoppy fusion of spicy, citrus NZ hops and the unmistakable floral and orange notes of American Amarillo. This amber red ale is moderately bitter with a smooth malt base consisting of pale ale, crystal malts and roasted barley. It's fermented using the American Chico strain of yeast and is the ideal everyday session beer. It's versatile and complements fish, chicken, seafood, pasta, barbeque, spicy foods: in fact, almost any savoury dish! It's got a 5% ABV.
Black Sands India Pale Ale
This is a full flavoured NZ style IPA with 6% ABV. Made from a base of five selected malts, it is generously hopped at every step of the brewing process with a selection of the finest locally grown hops, including Pacifica and Nelson Sauvin. The full, soft bitterness and citrus and gooseberry flavours are perfectly balanced by the rich caramel taste of crystal malts. This beer has a superb lingering after taste and works brilliantly with salty and full flavoured foods.
Black Sands West Coast Black Ale
This is Black Sands homage to everything that makes "the West the best" (not sure quite how we in the East relate to that but moving on), it's dark and fully hopped, falling somewhere between what could be considered a Cascadian Dark Ale and a hoppy porter. Expect a smooth body including plenty of toast, with earthy citrus and orange, all topped with a creamy tan head. It's a 6% ABV.
