Whitehaven have been offering wines of excellence from Marlborough for 22 years now. This Thursday we'll open three of them along with a cheap and cheerful Spaniard that has impressed us kiwis enough that we've given it two Gold Medals already. So it's a great night to drop in and see us, and because it's Easter, the tastings all happen one big night this week, Thursday. We hope you love the long weekend and remember, we have to be closed Good Friday and Easter Sunday by law, so cover your weekend's needs on Thursday and Saturday.
Brilliant crimson hue with an inviting nose of fragrant violets, pomegranate and redcurrant. Lovely dusty tannins and a round, velvety mouthfeel. Harmonious and easy drinking, with good weight, flavour intensity and balance. Drink it on its own, or as a suggestion, with patatas bravas (potatoes in tomato sauce) or meatballs.
Whitehaven Pinot Gris
GOLD MEDAL - Korea Wine Challenge
GOLD MEDAL - International Aromatic Wine Competition 2014
PURE GOLD - Air New Zealand Wine Awards 2014
Full bodied with a creamy, soft texture. The clean pear and quince flavours persist on the long, generous finish. It started life in good balance but now having been cellared for a year or two there's added texture and complexity enhancing the true varietal characters. We recommend dishes featuring smoked salmon, mushrooms or light game. Pasta and egg will also match well.
GOLD MEDAL - Royal Easter Show Wine Awards
PURE GOLD - Air New Zealand Wine Awards
GOLD MEDAL - NZ International Wine Show
An elegant, full-bodied wine with a clean, finely balanced acidity. The flavours of ripe citrus, stone fruit and savoury oak coat the palate and persist on the long, fresh finish. A perfect match for Mediterranean food, pork or chicken pies and creamy mushroom pastas.
Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc
DOUBLE-GOLD - Sakura Japan Women's Wine Awards
5 STARS & TOP 5 - Cuisine Magazine 5 STARS and TOP 5 for the Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc 2015
SILVER MEDAL - Royal Easter Show Wine Awards
A full flavoured, medium bodied wine, with an abundance of currant, citrus and gooseberry flavours that persist on the lengthy finish. Whitehaven recommend drinking their 2015 Sauvignon Blanc while it is young and fresh, however the wine is capable of developing nicely over the next three to five years if carefully cellared. This wine is a perfect accompaniment to summer salads, poultry and shellfish, such as Marlborough’s famous green-lipped mussels. Also try it with lobster and white fish.
