We've got four more wines for you to taste before you buy this week, one of the many reasons we're Whangaparaoa's favourite wine shop. So, from left to right...
Matahiwi Sauvignon Blanc
Awarded Gold at the CWSA Best Value awards, this vibrant, aromatic wine has flavours of gooseberry and limes, with a lively finish. It's superb with seafood and pasta dishes and delicious summer salads and ready to drink the day you buy it.. Great buying at $13.99.
Lawson's Dry Hills Pinot Gris
Lordy, this sounds nice. Lemon blossom, fresh cut pear, honey comb featuring strongly with a rich full palate. Just off dry with pip fruit and nectarine flavours abound with background notes of nougat and spice giving the wine great depth and interest. Ready to drink right away, the wine's also got cellaring potential for 3 - 4 years. It'll go magically with chicken, seafood and soft rich cheeses. A premium Pinot Gris at an almost economy level price of $20.99.
Leveret Estate ‘Reserve’ Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2013
Raymond Chan's 4 star review tells us the wine is "50% hand-picked....aged 15 months in 80% new French oak...(with) partial MLF...the wine carries through to a strong and long, citrus and nutty flavoured finish. This is a rich, lush and creamy, traditionally-styled Chardonnay with plenty of acid cut. Match with roasted pork and veal over the next 4-5+ years." Sounding fine right? Come and try this top flight Chardonnay this weekend. Normally retailing just over $33 a bottle, here at Manly Liquor, while stocks last it's just $24.99.
Tempranillo is the wine of Spain and usually delights most red wine drinkers. Yvonne Lorkin's online review points out that it's crazy that a wine this inexpensive can collect both a gold medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards AND a gold medal at the NZ International Wine Awards. She calls it the Man from La Mancha if you're looking for something cheap and cheerful and we could not agree more! Just $14.99, it will go delightfully with patatas bravas (potatoes in tomato sauce) or meatballs. This wine is selling for 12 Euro on an Irish wine site, so we can deliver it to you for nearly 25% less than in the EU itself.
