Yes, four more wines to enjoy at Manly Liquor this Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
I Muri Primitivo Puglia
Well-bred, beautifully-poised Salentino red with deep blackberry and cocoa bean flavours seasoned with light nutmeg and charcoal. Powerful and well built in an understated kind of way, with gorgeous, talc-like tannins. Exudes class and style.
Sip on its own with strong cheese or partner with roasted venison loin and beetroot tarte tatin.
Primitivo is a black grape used to make inky, tannic wines in S. Italy, especially the Salento zone of Puglia. Originally from Croatia, where it is still bottled today under its not-terribly-marketable Crljenak Kasteljanski name, Primitivo is in fact most famous as California's Zinfandel. The American interpretation tends to be alcoholic, chocolatey and sweet fruited, whereas the european model is more tannic, dry and bitter - in a good way!
Puglia (Apulia) is a long, thin red-wine region in the SE corner of Italy. The hot, flat Salento Peninsula (where 'I Muri' comes from) occupies the southern half of the area, and retains a strong connection to its Greco-Roman past. In recent years Puglia has had to make the difficult transition from producer of anonymous bulk wine to one of higher quality, bottled product. Important grapes include Negroamaro, Primitivo and Syrah.
A beautiful Italian to take home at $19.99 a bottle.
Leveret Estate Reserve Chardonnay
100% Mendoza clone fruit from two parcels from opposites sides of the Ngaruroro river, 50% hand-picked and WBP, fully indigenous yeast barrel-fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 15 months in 80% new French oak, undergoing 8 months batonnage and partial MLF.
Full straw-yellow colour with slight golden hues, pale edged. The nose is tightly bound with aromas of ripe citrus fruits intermixed with creamy barrel ferment and lemon-curd and buttery MLF notes. The aromatics unfold to reveal considerable richness and toasty oak, and nutty complexities. Medium-full bodied, densely packed and fulsome flavours of ripe citrus fruits and yellow stonefruits are entwined with rich, creamy barrel-ferment and nutty layers with toasty oak and butterscotch detail.
The wine is mouthfilling and the flavours underlined by excellent lacy acid cut and fine textures. This has drive and power and the wine carries through to a strong and long, citrus and nutty flavoured finish. This is a rich, lush and creamy, traditionally-styled Chardonnay with plenty of acid cut. Match with roasted pork and veal over the next 4-5+ years. Retail price is normally $33.95, it's spectacular buying at $20!

Trentham Estate River Retreat Shiraz
Try this full, fruity and smooth red from across the ditch (and a bit in to SA). Producers Trentham Estate make a donation to the Murray Darling Environmental Foundation for every bottle they sell. Trentham Estate's River Retreat ain't the first wine label to wave the green, eco-friendly flag around raising awareness about endangered birds, animals or in this case a fragile ecosystem in the Murray Darling region of South Australia. Anyway, the drinking is great as well, its a deep red colour, contains dark berry flavours and a sweet fruit inmfluence, it's got a little oak and some soft tannins. This is a perfect red for all your casual grills, pizzas, steaks, sausages, red meat burgers, you name it, it'll match up. And all this comes at just $13.99 a bottle.
Soho Westwood Rose
From beautiful Waiheke, this is a slightly unusual blend of Rose with Merlot 82%; Malbec 7%; Cabernet Franc 5%; Cabernet Sauvignon 4%; Syrah 1%; Petit Verdot 1% - see, told you so, quite unusual! With residual sugar at 14g this is well in to off-dry territory. It's a 100% hand picked harvest from Soho's Jomara Vineyard in Onetangi, and in its 2014 vintage took out Gold medals at both The Air New Zealand and Easter Show Wine Awards. It's got an assertive acidity, lots of raspberry influence and as we said, a suggestive sweetness. Try it this weekend and then take a bottle or six of this delicious Rose home for now or as a cellar option for next Spring. Just $21.99 a bottle.
